APPEAL TO POPULAR OPINION - this is the type of appeal when someone claims that an idea or belief is true simply because what most people believe.

An example I would like to use is when people judge Staten Island and people from Staten Island. I never really care for what people have to say nor think about me but one thing that annoys me a lot is when people judge me simply because I'm from Staten Island, not for my actions. I been living here since I was 3 years old. That's 17 years. There was also many times where I walked into a class, here at NYCI, and had the professors ask me " Are you from Staten Island?" and I would say "yes, why?" and then they would say " I can tell by the way you dress". What does that mean? How do I dress that is so differently from how other girls dress as? There was also times where people would come to work at a relatives business shop from different areas such as Tennessee, Colorado, and etc.. and then write on Facebook about how Staten Island is such a terrible place to live at. I never understood if Staten Island was such a terrible place then why would you accept the job here and move here to live? There's also people that say Staten Islanders are nasty and what not. But then again, if you go to different places around the world I'm sure you'll find nasty people as well.

One of the reasons Staten Island might be judged is because of the television programs - Jersey Shore and Mob Wives. These two programs set out a terrible image for the human race. There's a stereotype that every single person from Staten Island is this orange, fist pumping, steroid addicted Guido like the kids you see on jersey shore and yes, there are people from Staten Island who are really like that, but I'm sure its all over the world. Im sure all boroughs have a stereotype but Staten Island has it the worse. In both shows, there's actions by the people in it that are not classy and mostly fighting. And in both shows, there's "guidos" and "guidettes" and a lot of people say it comes from Staten Island.  It is horrible feeling to always be judged simply because you come from this place. I understand people have their opinions but most people believe Staten Island is terrible because of the image television media set it out to be.

I was speaking to a student I met from this school, and she is also from Staten Island. We spoke about this topic and she told me that when she was getting interviewed for her job and said she was from Staten Island, they looked at her in a weird way and made a face as "oh, she's from Staten island, she not is as smart". We both feel like it is harder to now be accepted into a job because Staten Island is where you are from. She told me as soon as they heard she was from Staten Island, all they did was ask questions about commute and if she is able to "handle" the job.

Most people believe the bad things that are said about Staten Island because of the image it has due to television but I believe differently. I believe where ever you go you will find "nasty people" or "guidos/guidettes", or "unintelligent people".

Staten Island isnt as bad as people make it seem. It is a great place to grow up in. Im from Staten Island and I do not fall into that stereotype category or what people think it is like. I certainly do not like to fight as seen on those television shows, and I certainly do not dress like "Staten Island", I dress how I want. And I deffintelty do not fist pump or take steriods as everyone thinks "ALL" Staten Islanders do.

memory bias

MEMORY BIAS is a cognitive bias that either enhances or impairs the recall of a memory or that alters the content of a reported memory.

Childhood amnesia is the retention of few memories before the age of four.
One memory that I will never forget is, it was my first time in Italy ( my mom has told me that was my first time), and I remember playing with a doll in my Nonna's room. I had a cousin that is a year older than me and we never got along and still never do. However what I remember is I was playing with the doll and my cousin started to cry because it was her's. I remember my Nonna taking it away from me and giving it to her. I was so angry that she did that. I always bring it up and talk about it with my mom. I found out recently that even though she took the doll away from me, she did give my mom 100 Euro to go buy me one.

Hindsight Bias is the inclination to see past events as being predictable; also called the " I Knew it all along " effect.
Even though this isn't one of my own memories, and when this happened I was only 7 and didn't know much, I now know the full story as to what happened that falls under the category " Hindsight Bias". My dad's youngest brother who lived in Italy, was dating this woman who no one liked on both my dads side and my moms side. I do not remember her one bit. My father has told me stories on how she was very nasty and controlling. My uncle and " that woman" he was dating came to America for the first time and my dad treated them to Atlantic City. My dad gave his brother $50 to play and luckily my uncle won $500. My uncle went to give $50 to my dad back and thanked him and as he was giving the $50 back, "that woman" snitched it from my dads hand and said "NO! this is my money". I was also told that when my mom's mom met her, she said to my father " I don't know her but I do not like her, she gives me a bad vibe". And I also was told my dads mom that she was very spiteful and always told her son to stay away from her. Unfortunately my uncle ended up marrying her and he was murdered by her and her dad. Everyone in the family was heartbroken and shocked but at the same time, everyone was saying " we told him to stay away".

Tip of the tongue is when a subject is able to recall parts of an item, or related information.
This usually happens to me when I get extremely excited or nervous. I tend to forget or forget how to speak or pronounce words. This happens when I have to present or talk in front of a large group of people.

I kNOW I shouldn't have

Operant Conditioning
is a learning process in which the probability of response occurring is increased or decreased due to reinforcement or punishment.

When I was in high school, I gave my parents a rough time. If I can go back and change the fact that I never listened to them, I would.

There was this one night, where one of my old friends were having a house party because both of her parents were away. I told my mom after work that I was sleeping at this friend’s house and that she was having a party. My mom begged and begged for me to not go and she kept saying I wasn't allowed to go. She said she had a bad feeling and didn't trust the friends I had. I decided to invite my two cousins that she trusted a lot and then I was allowed to go.

At the time I had a job that paid you each time you worked. I had about $200 and my iPod touch. As soon as I got to her house, I put my belongings in her room, since I was sleeping there.

My friend and I only invited a couple of friends but somehow A LOT of people showed up - people we never even met.

I drank a lot that night since I didn't have to go home. Later on that night, her uncle showed up and stopped the party. My friend was in shock and in a lot of trouble. My cousins ended up taking me home to their house.

When I got to their house, I realized my money and iPod touch were stolen. I started to cry hysterically and was disgusted that people can do that. The next day I found out that, not only did they steal from my bag they also stole money and jewelry from my friend’s house.

My aunt made me go home and tell my mother what had happened. My mom was extremely upset with me and angry with me.

From this experience, not only did I learn to listen to my mom, I also learned not to bring all my belongings with me. I also feel like from that day I have grown a lot and know my limits. I regret going there when I know I shouldn't have gone, although it could of have turned out way worse than it actually did.

As punishment for what had happened, my mom didn't let me out as much anymore and I had to be home at most of the time for a while. Every time I worked, she let me give her my money to hold onto till I "deserved" it. I wasn't allowed out until she trusted me again. “Like reinforcement, punishment can work either by directly applying an unpleasant stimulus like a shock after a response or by removing a potentially rewarding stimulus, for instance, deducting someone’s pocket money to punish undesirable behavior.

Psychology and Law

Psychology and Law go hand in hand many ways. Law is the regulation of human behavior and psychology is the study of human behavior. The way people act and the way people do things and see things is psychology. However, the law can prevent people from doing certain things. I think psychology and law have a lot to do with one another. They both have to do with human behavior.

DREAMS

The one dream that keeps reoccurring is about my cousins girlfriend who my family was very close with. She passed away from Melanoma Skin Cancer in July 2012. In my dream, she is always at my family parties having a great time and then she disappears every time I try talking to her. I believe I keep having this dream because she is always on my mind and also because I miss her a lot.

On www.dreammoods.com :

To see your dead sibling, relative, or friend in your dream indicates that you miss them and are trying to relive your old experiences you had with them. In trying to keep up with the pace of your daily waking life, your dreams may serve as your only outlet in coping and coming to terms with the loss of a loved one. Dreaming of a dead person who passes away again in your dream means that you wished they were still around to experience and share certain aspects of your life with you. Such dreams are more likely to occur during happy times or during important milestones in your life.

As she was going through the cancer, she blogged about it on tumblr.

PERCEPTION

"Perception is the process by which individuals organize and interpret their sensory impressions in order to give meaning to their environment and that people selectively interpret what they see on basis of their interest, background, experience, and attitudes".

An example of perception is when I go to Italy with my family, everyone looks at me amazed, simply because I come from New York. They think my clothing, my trip expense, and my living of life is just handed over to me and I don't work for anything. Besides the fact I do come from the greatest city of all, they don't understand or see how I work everyday of my life. I am at school twice a week and work five times a week. Everything I have and everything I want, I work for it and save it. I have a lot of bills to pay for as well.
